Costa del Sol: The Ultimate Holiday Destination

The Costa del Sol in the south of the Spanish peninsula remains one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, since it combines a magnificent climate throughout the year with a great selection of beaches and excellent infrastructure along a 160 km coast.

 

The Costa del Sol stretches along some 160 kilometers in the province of Malaga, from Nerja in the east to Manilva in the west. Due to its excellent climate throughout the year, this region is year after year one of the most popular holiday destinations. Therefore, the Costa del Sol is not only a summer resort; the mild climate allows enjoying a large number of outdoor activities, a fact that not only golf enthusiasts take advantage of.

1. Marbella

Marbella is the great classic of the Andalucian coast thanks to its climate, natural setting, coasts, important sports complexes and, above all, the friendliness of its people. Marbella is surrounded by the warm Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Blanca mountains, giving it the mildest weather and 320 days of sunshine a year. It’s golden sand beaches stetching 30Km are the holiday dream. Here you will find more than 15 kilometres of promenade taking you through the nature and along the beach. Authentic Marbella Old town is another must-see with its stone-paved streets and its colourful doors.

2. Malaga

Malaga, once overlooked as a holiday destination, has come a long way in recent years. Now the city offers a fantastic mix of both modern and traditional as well as being one of the best beach resorts in Spain. Oozing with Andalusian charm,  Malaga is incredibly compact, with all the main attractions just a short stroll away from the seaside. Highlights include its Roman amphitheatre, the imposing Alcazaba and The Picasso Museum, that pays homage to the city’s most famous resident.

3. Estepona

The gorgeous town of Estepona is one of the Costa del Sol’s hidden gems. It boasts one of Andalusia’s prettiest old quarters as well as some of Málaga’s best beaches and seafood restaurants – all reasons why you should visit this beautiful place. Estepona is famous for it’s charming old town with colourful plant pots that adorn the whitewashed walls of its houses.

4. Nerja

The picture-perfect town of Nerja is situated at the far east of the Costa del Sol. Once a quiet village, it’s now one of Andalucía’s most popular resorts – however, it remains blissfully unspoiled by the masses. Hike to the top of the Bálcon de Europa, a striking belvedere built on top of a 13th century fort. picteresque beaches are also a must-see in Nerja.
